Belize: January 2014

ABLE volunteers renovated a school for 750 students and creating a playground among many other community service activities.

Uganda Mission Trip: June 2014

 ABLE volunteers helped to build an All Purpose Building for St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic High School, painted dorms, repaired and built furniture, assisted teachers, and provided fluoride treatments.

 St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic High School was started by Fr. Isidore and the Catholic men of Kamwenge Parish in 2003. Its purpose was to provide a quality education with high moral standards.  The school is so attractive now that applicants come from all over the country.  Current enrollment is 500 students.  The school has 2 dorms, each housing students who live far from home.  Local students live with their families.  The school’s greatest need is for a multi-purpose building large enough to hold all of the students and serve as an assembly hall and cafeteria as well.

Burma (Myanmar): February 2013

Five volunteers renovated an orphanage and constructed extensive playground equipment.  Children were climbing before the paint was dry!

Kenya: June 2013

Nineteen volunteers visited the Masimari tribe creating a medical clinic and classroom.  One volunteer was a preschool teacher who taught bible stories and songs. The classroom included solar panels to charge donated computers. A swingset was built, but the children did not know how to use it until – Emily, a 9 year old volunteer, taught them!

Appalachia: August 2013

Nine volunteers helped with David school renovations and repairs and landscaping.  They also painted and repaired St. Vincent monastery.

Haiti (October) Seven volunteers improved living conditions for Odolphe and dedicated home.  The team also arranged for 21 children to have scholarships. Helped build more rubble homes.

Ghana: February 2012

Nineteen volunteers conducted a medical clinic and  renovated the schools with permission received during a ceremony with the local tribal chiefs. Volunteers learned tribal dancing to African drums from villagers.

Appalachia: August 2012

Eleven volunteers (4 of whom where children) renovated the David School in David Kentucky in collaboration with St. Vincent Mission. Made renovations and repairs to students’  dorms.

Haiti: October 2012

Six volunteers built a rubble home for 15 year old Odolphe Charles who lost his Rivierre Froide home in earthquake. This project was led by ABLE Youth volunteer Christian Cole. The team also renovated Little Sisters of St. Therese convent, including the reconstruction of a chicken coop also destroyed in earthquake.

Nine volunteers visited Mercy and Sharing Orphanage for handicapped Haitian children.  Built playground with jungle gyms, swings and slides and renovated dormitories.

Senior/Disabled Home Renovation (ongoing in Lexington, KY and Austin, TX)

Bolivia:April 2011

Twenty volunteers built a new school building, renovated existing school and held a medical clinic. Children where elated to receive small toys such as bouncy balls and marbles.  Shoes and oven donated. 

Appalachia: August 2011

Twenty-five volunteers, half of whom were children, repaired homes damaged by tornadoes.

Steiner Ranch Wildfire Relief Efforts: October 2011

100 + volunteers participated in “Save the tree” project and assisting those families who lost homes.

 Mexico: April 2010

At San Juan de los Potreros (St. John of the Pasture), 12 Volunteers renovated the village school, church rectory, and town square with the help of 30+ locals.  Volunteers created a basketball court and soccer field.  Students cheered when presented with a huge sports bags full of soccer balls. Shoes, clothes, medicine and vitamins were also donated.

In the small village of San Juan de los Potreros, 8 volunteers renovated a school and painted the town (literally)!
